the mellon migration story

At the Ulster American Folk Park we follow Thomas Mellon's emigration story.

Dr Patrick Fitzgerald from the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies takes us through the movements of the Mellon family before 1813.

Thomas Mellon was born in a small farmhouse in Castletown, County Tyrone in February 1813. At the age of five, he emigrated to Pennsylvania with his parents. He would grow up to become a lawyer, a judge, and the founder of the Mellon Bank, which remains one of the largest in America.

Explore the journey below from Thomas Mellon's life in Ulster to his life in America, and his return to Ireland.
